Electoral Officer's Role
Roles and Responsibilities
The specific responsibilities that Electoral officers have during elections are set out in various pieces of legislation, chiefly the Local Electoral Act 2001.
The Primary Responsibilities of Local Councils during Elections include:
- accurately preparing and publishing rolls of electors for a given district from lists of electors provided by the Chief Registrar of Elector's office (EEC)
- producing the ballot papers for the election
- compiling a list of the voting rights of each elector eg, recording the ward they are entitled to vote for
- ensuring that the computers and programs used to produce the rolls are able to accurately manipulate the data provided by the Chief Registrar of Elector's office (EEC)
- liasing with EEC on the name changes of contact people and on any queries or requests for additional information.
