Going to be overseas for the Mt Albert by-election

People who are overseas and enrolled in the Mt Albert electorate can still vote!

You are eligible to vote from overseas if you are enrolled in the Mt Albert general electorate and:

  • You are a New Zealand citizen and have visited New Zealand within the last three years; or
  • You are a permanent resident of New Zealand and have visited New Zealand in the last 12 months.

Enrolment closes at midnight Friday 24 February (NZ time).  You cannot enrol on election day.

How to get your voting papers from overseas

Voting papers are not automatically sent to voters who are overseas.

From Wednesday 8 February, voters who are overseas and enrolled in the Mt Albert electorate can get their voting papers in one of the following ways:

If you are on the unpublished roll or inside New Zealand you will not be able to download your voting papers.

How to return your voting papers from overseas

Voters who are overseas and enrolled in the Mt Albert electorate can return their voting papers in one of the following ways:

  • Upload their voting papers here
  • Fax their voting papers to the Electoral Commission (+64 4 494 2300)
  • Post their voting papers to the Electoral Commission:

  • Post or hand deliver their voting papers to an overseas post listed at the bottom of this page. 

Voting papers returned to the Electoral Commission by upload or fax must be received no later than 7pm, Saturday 25 February (NZ time).

Voting papers returned to the Electoral Commission by post must be postmarked no later than Thursday 23 February and received at the Electoral Commission or at the Returning Officer’s headquarters by noon, Wednesday 1 March.

Voting papers returned to an overseas post must be received before the close of voting at that post usually 4pm (local time) Friday 24 February (subject to local holidays).
