The 2018 Māori Electoral Option will be held from Tuesday 3 April until Thursday 2 August.
The Māori Electoral Option is when Māori voters can choose whether to be on the Māori or the General Roll.
This is an important choice for anyone of Māori descent. It will determine which roll type Māori voters will be on for the next two general elections. The results of the Māori Electoral Option, together with the results of the 2018 Census, will be used to determine the number and boundaries of General and Māori Electorates for the 2020 and 2023 elections.
It will have been five years since the last Māori Electoral Option, so it is critical that voters get the information they need to make this important choice.
