The electoral agencies aim to improve services provided at general elections for people with disabilities.
In preparing for the 2011 general election and referendum on the voting system, the Electoral Commission consulted disability groups and developed a new Action Plan, “Access 2011”, to improve accessibility. This is available for download below.
This continues work started for the 2005 and 2008 general elections.
We aim to:
- Provide information in accessible formats for disabled people about the referendum on the voting system.
- Continue all initiatives that have proved successful for the 2011 General Election and Referendum on the Voting System.
Access 2011: Accessibility Action Plan for the 2011 General Election and Referendum on the Voting System described the initiatives implemented to improve access for the 2011 election.
We consulted about potential improvements for the 2011 General Election and Referendum. A consultation document, Improving Access to General Elections for Disabled People, was released in August 2010 to help generate feedback for the development of an action plan for the General Election and Referendum.
Submissions closed on 24 September 2010. A number of organisations and individuals from across the disability sector and the community made submissions.
