General Description
The Auckland Central electorate comprises the communities in the centre of Auckland City, extending from Westmere in the west around to Mechanics Bay in the east. It includes Freemans Bay, Grey Lynn and Ponsonby. This electorate also comprises an area extending into the Hauraki Gulf, which includes Rangitoto, Waiheke and Greater Barrier Islands.
Summary of Reasons
The Auckland Central electorate is 15% over quota and its population is growing strongly relative to the quota. The area of Point Chevalier has been transferred to Mt Albert. Other adjustments have been made around Grafton, Eden Terrace and The Domain.
