General Description
The Christchurch Central electorate is centred on the whole of the central city, including the suburbs of Papanui, St Albans, Mairehau, Shirley, Richmond, Avonside, and Linwood (west of Aldwins Road).
Summary of Reasons
The Commission has adjusted the boundaries of this electorate as a result of the contraction of the Waimakariri electorate. The southern boundary has moved north to the railway line parallel to Moorhouse Avenue. The proposed electorate now excludes Addington and parts of Waltham. Addington has moved to the Wigram electorate. Part of Sydenham north of Brougham Street and part of Waltham south of Brougham Street have moved into Banks Peninsula. The other significant change is in the north west where the Commission has included parts of Papanui north of the Main North Road and Harewood Road.
