General Description
The New Lynn electorate comprises an area extending southwest from the Auckland suburbs of Avondale and Blockhouse Bay to the coastal settlement of Whatipu. It includes the communities of New Lynn, Titirangi, Green Bay, Laingholm and Huia.
Summary of Reasons
The existing electorate of New Lynn is 1% under quota and the population is projected to increase slowly relative to quota. Boundary adjustments have been made with Waitakere at North Titirangi and Konini and with Te Atatu at Kelston. A further small adjustment is made to include an area north east of Avondale racecourse at the Mt Albert boundary. To compensate for these, the eastern suburbs of New Lynn (Windsor and Lynfield) have been transferred to Mt Roskill. This is part of the general westwards shift of Auckland City boundaries to make way for an additional electorate in south east Auckland.
