General Description
The Ohariu electorate consists of the communities of Westhaven, Tawa (excluding Linden), Johnsonville, Ngaio, Crofton Downs, Khandallah, Korokoro, Maungaraki and Normandale.
Summary of Reasons
The existing Ohariu-Belmont electorate’s population was well within quota at +2%. However, with the addition of Crofton Downs (moved from Wellington Central electorate) this increased to nearly 4%. As the current boundary between it and Hutt South is geographically very strong, some of the surplus population has been moved into Rimutaka by moving the suburb of Belmont. With the removal of Belmont into the Rimutaka electorate the Commission has renamed this electorate to its former name of Ohariu
