General Description

The Pare Hauraki-Pare Waikato electorate’s northern boundary commences at Manukau Harbour in the west, passes through Manurewa and then extends north to the inlet of Mangemangeroa Creek at Shelly Park Beach. The southern boundary commences at Tauratahi Point on Kawhia Harbour, moves east to include Te Awamutu, Cambridge and Matamata, then moves northward to include Waihi Beach.

Summary of Reasons

The existing Tainui electorate has a population which is increasing relative to the quota. The Commission decided to move the people from Ngati Maniapoto to join the people of Ngati Raukawa to address a quota shortfall in the Te Tai Hauauru electorate. The boundary between the two electorates now occurs at the Puniu River. This change requires a consequential adjustment to rebalance the electorate. The Commission has made this change by moving population from Tamaki-Makaurau at the southern part of Manurewa east of the motorway. The Commission proposes that the electorate be renamed Pare Hauraki-Pare Waikato.
