General Description
The Rangitata electorate comprises the area south of the Rakaia River to south of Timaru, and inland to the main divide of the Southern Alps. It includes the communities of Rakaia, Ashburton, Methven, Mt Somers, Temuka and Timaru City.
Summary of Reasons
The transfer of most of the existing Aoraki electorate to the proposed Waitaki electorate effectively results in the creation of a new electorate centred on the town of Ashburton and including Temuka and Timaru. The northern boundary is the Rakaia river.
A major geographic feature within the electorate is the Rangitata river that the Commission has used to name the electorate.
