General Description
The Selwyn electorate comprises the communities west of Christchurch City between the Waimakariri and Rakaia Rivers, including Rolleston, Lincoln, Burnham, Darfield, Lake Coleridge and Springfield, and extends inland to include Arthur’s Pass. It also includes Christchurch International Airport and the Christchurch suburbs of Bishopdale (north of Harewood Road), Casebrook, Oaklands, Halswell and Westmorland.
Summary of Reasons
This is a new electorate. It arises because of the northward movement of the southern electorates, which caused the disappearance of the existing Rakaia electorate. This proposed electorate now comprises the residual part of the Rakaia electorate north of the Rakaia river and Halswell, Oaklands, Westmorland and Casebrook .
