General Description
The Taupo electorate comprises an area in the central North Island including Lake Taupo and part of the volcanic plateau, and the communities of Taupo, Turangi, Tokoroa, Putaruru, Tirau and Cambridge.
Summary of Reasons
The existing electorate of Taupo had to lose significant population to Rangitikei in the south. Constrained to the west by Taranaki – King Country, the Commission had to continue the trend northward that has occurred with other electorates. The boundary therefore moves north into Piako along State Highway 1 to include Cambridge.
