General Description

The Te Tai Hauauru electorate extends from Kawhia Harbour in the north to Tawa in the south. Its eastern boundary takes in the South Waikato District, a large part of the volcanic plateau, crosses the Kaimanawa Mountains, and down the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges, to include Porirua and Tawa. It also includes the cities of New Plymouth, Wanganui and Palmerston North.

Summary of Reasons

Te Tai Hauauru electorate is outside the quota and has population which is projected to decline relative to the quota. The Commission has decided to address the balance by moving the people of Ngati Maniapoto from the Tainui electorate to join with the people of Ngati Raukawa in Te Tai Hauauru. The boundary between the two electorates now occurs at the Puniu River.
