School Resources

Help create a future of active, engaged citizens with Your Voice, Your Choice teaching units.

The Electoral Commission has developed these resources to help schools deliver engaging activities designed to encourage students' understanding and enthusiasm for participating in their communities and the voting process.

All units are aligned with the vision, principles, values and key competencies of Levels 3 to 5 the New Zealand Curriculum and Level 5 Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and link to the social sciences learning area.

The material is flexible for different levels.  You are encouraged to adapt the sequence of learning activities to meet the specific needs and experiences of your students.

Flag Consideration Project

The Flag Consideration Project has designed a resource to help teachers, leaders, students, and whānau as they engage with the flag consideration process in their school community. The resource links to the New Zealand Curriculum, helps explore personal and national identity, and ideas to guide the replication of the referendum process within your school.  This resource caters for students from years 1-10 and can be adapted to suit learners in your classroom.  It is available on the Ministry of Education's website by clicking here.
