The Family Party was registered as a political party on 17 December 2007 making it eligible to contest the party vote at elections.

The party's proposed registered logo was rejected as the Electoral Commission believed that the predominent orange colour's similarity to that used by the electoral agencies could mislead or confuse.

The Electoral Commission also registered The Act Party as an abbreviation for ACT New Zealand.
