How to vote

A Parliamentary by-election in the Mt Albert electorate will be held on Saturday 13 June 2009.

Voters will vote for the electorate candidate they want to be their local Member of Parliament  
 
The by-election is being held because of the resignation of the Member of Parliament for Mt Albert.

Who can vote?

 
Anyone who is enrolled in the Mt Albert electorate by Friday 12 June can vote in the Mt Albert by-election. You must be eligible to enrol in the Mt Albert electorate.
 
If you enrol by Writ Day Monday 11 May you will receive an EasyVote card and pack from the Chief Electoral Office. 

How?

 
You can vote at a polling place in the Mt Albert electorate on election day, or at an advance voting place from Wednesday 27 May.
 
If you enrol in time, you will receive an EasyVote information pack containing an EasyVote card or letter.
 
Take your EasyVote card (or letter) with you when you vote. Give it to the issuing officer. 
 
If you don't have an EasyVote card or letter you can still vote, but it will take longer. You will need to tell the issuing officer your full name and address.
 
The issuing officer will give you your ballot paper.  Take it behind a voting screen.
 
You have one vote - for the electorate candidate.
 
On your ballot paper, place a tick by the name of the candidate you would most like to represent the Mt Albert electorate in Parliament.  You can view a sample ballot paper for the Mt Albert by-election.

When?

 
You can vote at a polling place in the Mt Albert electorate between 9.00am and 7.00pm on election day Saturday 13 June.
 
If you are not going to be in the Mt Albert electorate on election day you will need to vote in advance. Advance voting is available from Wednesday 27 May.

Where?

Polling places will only be available inside the Mt Albert electorate on election day.
 
 
If you are unable to get to a polling place or can’t vote in advance, there are other options available. These include applying for your voting papers to be sent to you in the mail or arranging for someone to bring your voting papers to you.
 
If you are overseas during the voting period, you can cast an overseas vote.
